Privacy policy
Last updated 8 October 2026
Your photos are yours. We use them only to make your book, we never sell them or your personal details, and we don't run advertising or tracking cookies.
Chitragatha (chitragatha.com) is run by Prygenix Innovations Private Limited, Bangalore, Karnataka, India ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use Chitragatha, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. It is written to meet India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
What we collect
Photos and books
- The photos you upload, and the books, captions and text you create.
- Information stored inside your photos (EXIF): the date and time taken, the camera, and — if your camera recorded it — the GPS location. We use the date to order your photos and the location to detect the country and draw route maps in your book. We don't use it for anything else.
- For birthday books, the name and age you enter for the person celebrating.
Account details (only if you sign in)
- Your email address and name. When you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive your name and verified email address from them — never your password.
- If you turn on an authenticator app, the secret key used to check your 6-digit codes.
Orders
- The delivery name, mobile number, email and address you give us, any gift message, and your order history.
- Payment status and the payment reference from Razorpay. We never see or store your card, UPI or bank details — you enter them directly with Razorpay.
Technical information
- Basic server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested, errors), kept for security and troubleshooting.
Cookies
We use only the cookies the site needs to work:
- wb_uid — keeps your books together on this browser, so you can use Chitragatha as a guest without an account.
- wb_session — keeps you signed in, if you sign in.
There are no advertising, analytics or third-party tracking cookies. If you clear your cookies while using Chitragatha as a guest, the books made on this browser can no longer be opened — sign in to keep them safe across devices.
How we use your information
- To design, show, edit and save your books, and to create your PDFs and print files.
- To print, pack and deliver the books you order, to send sign-in codes, and to contact you about your order.
- To take payments, prevent fraud, and keep records the law requires (for example tax and accounting records).
- To answer your questions and fix problems.
We do not sell, rent or trade your photos or personal information, and we do not use your photos to train AI models.
Who we share it with
Only with the service providers needed to run Chitragatha, and only what each one needs:
- Razorpay — to process payments.
- Our printing partner — the print file of the book you ordered, and your order number.
- Courier partners — the delivery name, phone number and address, to deliver your parcel.
- Hostinger — hosts our servers and our email.
- Google and Microsoft — only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Anthropic (AI captions) — only when you ask for AI caption suggestions: small copies of the photos on those pages are sent to suggest captions. Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models. If you never press the AI caption button, nothing is sent.
- OpenStreetMap (place search) — when you add a place to your photos, the place name you type (for example "Jaipur") is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find it on the map. Nothing else is sent: no photos, names or account details.
- Google (Gemini, help chat) — the questions you type into the Help chat are sent to Google's Gemini AI to write the answer. We use Google's free service, under which Google may use these messages to improve its products, and people at Google may read them — so please don't type personal details into the chat. Your photos and books are never sent to Google.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, for example to answer a valid request from a court or government authority, or to protect the rights and safety of our customers and our business.
If you share a book with a share link, anyone who has that link can view the book. You can turn sharing off at any time.
How long we keep it
- Books and photos stay until you delete them. You can delete a photo or a whole book at any time from your books page.
- Photos that are part of a printed order still being made can only be deleted after that order is delivered.
- Order and payment records are kept for 8 years, as Indian tax and company law requires.
- Deleted data is removed from our daily backups within 30 days.
How we protect it
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). Photos and data are stored on servers we rent in a secure data centre, with access limited to the people who run Chitragatha. Sign-in codes and session tokens are stored only in hashed form. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you and the authorities about any breach as the law requires.
Children
Chitragatha is meant to be used by adults (18 years and over). Parents and guardians often make birthday books with photos of their children — please only upload photos you are allowed to use. We don't knowingly collect personal data directly from children; if you think a child has given us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a summary of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct or update it;
- delete your account and your data (except records we must keep by law);
- withdraw consent you have given — for example, stop using your data for anything other than a current order.
